What should I look for when choosing my wedding photographer ? Session 12. Do I need more than one photographer at my wedding?

Some wedding photographers offer the option of having a second photographer at your wedding. Whether that is an option you should take advantage of depends upon a number of factors. These include the size of your wedding, your budget and what you want from your wedding photography.

• If your wedding will be a small one, perhaps an intimate gathering of family and close friends after a small wedding ceremony, it’s a pretty safe bet that one photographer can provide all the coverage you need. If however your event will be a large one, having a second photographer on the scene may add a huge amount to the memories of your special day, especially if catching as many of the day’s events on camera as possible is important to you.
• At a large wedding, having a second photographer can mean that far more detail can be recorded. Having someone, a lady is usually more comfortable, working with the bride while she prepares, at the same time having a chap with the groom and his friends can make for a very special set of images in your wedding album.
• If you will be having group portraits done at your wedding, having a second photographer can speed the process along, and some off centre images can be real killers. (If you are having lots of formal shots it is really a good investment to have someone who really knows the guests to be given the job of rounding up for the next photographs)
• Having a second photographer at your wedding may cost more, it can be well worth it if some really wonderful and poignant wedding photographs is something important to you. Some photographers work together as a husband and wife team, this is probably the crème de la crème as their styles often blend seamlessly and lead to a very smooth service.  After all, you only get one chance to get it right when it comes to your wedding photos.
