Michael Blyth Photography - Portrait Photographer
I look at my new website with a degree of pride, but also with huge appreciation to Mel who has put it together and given it a heart-beat.
What has changed? A lot, and not much! We’ve trimmed it down, to Portrait Photography, then added some related sections - notably one expounding my ‘Headshots’ work, and one about the ‘School Portraits’ I’ve been doing for a couple of decades and more.
Both of these evolve from the core skill of allowing people to relax and be themselves - that two-way process based on inherent trust. You trusting me to capture natural and emotive images, yes, even for headshots, and me trusting you or yours to gradually relax and realise I’m ok at this.
School Portraits
My school portraits are unique, and I was really the first exponent of this style, and many would kindly say I'm still the best. Many have tried to copy my style over the years, but from comments I've received, have failed - perhaps it's an attitude thing - being my own business it's in my interests to get it right, and starting off with someone who I consider an equal is I believe a good place to start.
It is hard to describe the pleasure of greeting a young person who has just come charging across with a big smile of greeting, chatting through what has happened in their lives, and mine, in the period since I last photographed them.
Headshot Photography
Headshots are a funny old thing, so much more important than when I first started doing them for actors and musicians. The explosion of 'all things online' has created the need for most businesses to have staff images, and as much as Mr Trump relished his police mugshot, they really do not want to be of that style. The 'terrified, don't want to be here' image is really not in vogue in this day and age. There are very few headshot photographers as experienced as I am, and my style, honed over the years, sets me in a very strong position against the younger, who have great potential; keen but green.
