A Year of Inspiration 2027 – A Photographic Desk Diary by Michael Blyth
Inspired by the ideas behind Simple Photography Tips

A Year of Inspiration 2027
For some time I have wanted to bring together two strands of my work: photography itself, and the ideas that photographs can teach us about looking more carefully at the world.
The result is A Year of Inspiration, my 2027 photographic desk diary.
It contains 59 photographs taken in Britain and across Europe, each paired with a short thought about seeing, noticing, photography, or simply paying more attention to what is around us.
Some images were made with professional Nikon equipment. Others were taken on an iPhone. That matters, because one of the recurring ideas throughout the diary is that photography is not simply about equipment. It is about learning to look.

A 2027 photographic desk diary with a difference
Unlike a conventional January-to-December diary, A Year of Inspiration runs for 58 weeks, from Christmas 2026 through to the end of January 2028. It gives you a little extra breathing space at both ends of the year.
Each week has a photograph on the left-hand page, together with a short piece explaining what the image taught me or what made it work.
Opposite is a practical week-to-view diary page, with space for appointments, notes and plans.
The idea is that the diary should be useful, but also offer a small visual pause each week.
Some photographs are about patience. Some are about composition, light, colour or timing. Others are simply reminders to notice what might otherwise pass unseen.

Fifty-nine photographs across the year
The photographs range from misty woodland in Britain to mountain landscapes, wildlife, architecture, travel details and quieter moments found along the way.
One week may feature a griffon vulture circling over the mountains of northern Spain.

Another might focus on a ladybird among lavender, a red window in Asturias, flamingos at sunset in Mallorca or trees slowly emerging through morning mist.

The subjects change, but the underlying idea remains the same:
learning to look until you see.
